Lonavala

LonavalaLonavala, situated in Western Maharashtra, India, is a charming little hill station nestling in the Sahyadri Ranges of the Western Ghats. The beauty of its serene trekking paths, gushing streams and waterfalls has earned it the moniker "Jewel of the Sahyadri". Lonavala, being one of the few green spots near the bustling metropolis Mumbai, is very popular with weekend tourists. Also, it is famous for its boarding schools and a Navy training institute, the INS Shivaji.

Tourist Attractions at Lonavala

The Bhushi Lake is formed when the Bhushi Dam, en route to INS Shivaji, overflows during monsoons. The Rajmachi Point is 5 kilometers away from Lonavala town. You can spot the 17th century warrior king Shivaji's fort from the Rajmachi Point. The Lonavala Lake, 2 kilometers from the town center, is a beautiful spot popular with picnickers. Kuhne lies 2.5 kilometers from Lonavala. It is a green spot that has lush vegetation after the monsoons. The Walwan Dam, 2 kilometers from Lonavala, has a lush, green garden close to it. It supplies water for power generation to Lonavala town. The Rye Wood Park, adjacent to Lonavala's railway station, is famous for its dense woods. From Lonavala, Lohgarh Fort lies 12 kilometers away in the town of Malwali. Built by Shivaji, this fort once had the reputation of being impregnable.

Regular bus service from Pune and Mumbai (104 kilometers).

Train
All trains running between Mumbai and Pune halt at Lonavala. There is a regular train from Pune to Lonavala.
