A Peep Inside The History Of The Park
The Corbett Tiger Reserve has quite a history. It is India's First National Park and one of the finest, notable for its individualistic scenic charm and magnificent submontane and riverine vistas, and also for its richly varied wildlife, still interestingly in the process of change, and the site of the launching of project Tiger.
Early this century its exceptional potential as a wildlife reserve was recognized and there were moves to have it officially declared a sanctuary, liberating it from the exploitation of its tree forests and human occupation of the riverside land. Finally, in 1936 it was set up as the first authentic national park of the country under the United Provinces National Parks Act.
Day 01: Delhi Arrival
Pick up from Delhi International airport and straight drive to hotel for night stay.
Day 02: Delhi-Corbett National Park
Drive Delhi-Corbett National Park (275 km / 6 hr.) in the morning. Arrive at Tiger Camp by noon. After lunch, drive onward for Dhangarhi gate for entry to Dhikala tourism zone. Visit the Interpretation Centre. Jeep safari through the stately dense Sal jungle and the wildlife adventure of Corbett begins. Jeep Safari by the lower jungle track along the Ramganga river accompanied by an expert guide. A great opportunity for viewing wildlife, especially the tiger in its natural habitat. Cross the river at Gethia Rao bridge for the Kanda Range, where Jim Corbett shot the famous Kanda man-eater. Arrive at the main tourist complex, Dhikala - check in. Relax in the serene, lingering quietness of the park and capture the panoramic expanse on your camera. Visit one of the best wildlife libraries of India. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 03: Corbett National Park
Drive to Tiger Camp after breakfast. Arrive Tiger Camp for lunch. Afternoon jeep safari to Bijrani for tiger tracking. Overnight stay in the resort.
Jeep Safari in Corbett National Park for tiger tracking. Drive along the Ramganga, to look for some fish-eating Gharial and Marsh Crocodiles. If you are lucky enough, you will possibly see the some species of Kingfishers, Pallas & Himalayan Greyheaded Fishing Eagles, Osprey, Crested Serpent Eagle and of course the Mammalia. Later on arrive at Dhikala, where the natural setting will take your breath away. Have lunch and rest for while, enjoying the panoramic view of the grassland area and its abundant wildlife. The elephant ride from Dhikala provides the opportunity get a close view of the Himalayan wildlife. Jeep ride back to the lodge for overnight stay.
Project Tiger
On April 1, 1973, Project Tiger was inaugurated here. This ambitious project aims at saving and reviving the alarmingly dwindled Indian Tiger (Panthera Tigris Tigris) by setting up specially selected reserves of adequate area in which not only the Tiger but also all other animals and the wild flora, would be totally conserved, such total conservation with no selective bias, depending on the ability of nature of maintain its own balance, being much the best way to rehabilitate any animal, as part of a whole wildlife complex. In 1973 there were 8 such reserves under the project, and the Corbett Tiger Reserve was the first of these.
As in all other reserves of the project, here too the main part is constituted into a core area meant exclusively for the wild fauna and flora, where there is no human disturbance and around this core is the insulating buffer zone, in which a part is allotted to tourism. Prior to 1973 Dhikala had been developed to provide accommodation and facilities to see the wildlife, to visitors to the National Park; it is still the main centre of tourism.
Day 04: Corbett National Park

Day 5: Corbett National Park
Early morning Jeep Safari in the Ghairal area and into the awesome wilderness of the Corbett national park. Arrive at the wildlife resort. Drive in a jeep to get to the start-off point of the Elephant safari. En route visit Kanda situated at an elevation of 1,020m, where Jim Corbett shot the Kanda Man-eater. After having a picnic lunch, start the Elephant Safari in the Himalayan foothills. Arrive, after enjoying the leisure ride, at the forest rest house, built in British bungalow style for overnight stay in the wilderness.
Day 6: Corbett National Park
Start a full day wildlife expedition on an elephant back, stopping en route at a picturesque spot for breakfast. Stop by again for rest at a forest rest house and letting the elephant also some break as well as bath in the stream. After rest, start the Elephant Safari for the Sonanadi sanctuary, going along the Rocky Plain river, the forested areas and the scenery is spectacular over here. Arrive at the Halduparao Forest Rest House, built in 1892 it was broken down by the Wild Elephants and abandoned. The Sonanadi Sanctuary was included in the Corbett Tiger Reserve and this Forest Rest House was restored, a few years ago. After a hot water bucket wash, get together at a campfire. Overnight stay at the forest rest house.

Day 07: Corbett National Park-Delhi
Drive to Bhuvankhal early in the morning to see the sunrise and the snow clad peaks of central Himalayas. Return to Tiger Camp for lunch. Drive to onward Delhi. Arrive Delhi, check into the hotel for night stay.
Day 08: Delhi/Departure
Morning free for rest. In the late evening transfer to airport to catch flight for home. End your tour with happy memories.
